A journalist had done a story on gender roles in Kuwait several years before the Gulf War, and she noted then that women customarily walked about 10 feet behind their husbands.

She returned to Kuwait recently and observed that the men now walked several yards behind their wives. She approached one of the women for an explanation. "This is marvelous," said the journalist. "What enabled the women to achieve this reversal of roles? Replied the Kuwaiti woman: "Land mines!"

These are the Proverbs of powerful King Solomon! He gives them to help us live a life of godly wisdom! There are only two ways to go in life and that is the good path of the righteous, and the evil path of the wicked! If you will read these proverbs and heed them into your life, you will be blessed beyond measure! With that challenge let us jump in and see what God would have us to learn!

16 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

Garments were common security for a loan but they always had to be returned by sundown (Ex 22:26, 27; Dt 24:10-13). Anyone who foolishly has taken on the responsibility for the debt of a stranger will likely never be paid back, so he will never pay his creditor unless his own garment is taken as security.

When you take a garment, or a pledge it means you are going to loan something to the individual. It is very risky to give out a loan to a stranger! I remember when I first came to the church. A fellow stopped by the church and said he was looking for a church! I naturally invited him to come into the service on the next Sunday, and he agreed! Then he asked if he could have a couple dollars for gas, and I thought, "Well, maybe he will come to church," so I gave him a couple of dollars, and he promised to come to church the next Sunday!
