Title: The Church SENT
Author: Dr. H. Richard Onarecker
Text: Matthew 4:23-24, John 20:19-21
Matthew 4:23-24: And Jesus was going about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every sickness among the people. And the news about Him went out into all Syria; and they brought to Him all who were ill, taken with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, paralytics; and He healed them. NASB
John 20:19-21: When therefore it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst, and said to them, "Peace be with you." And when He had said this, He showed them both His hands and His side. The disciples therefore rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus therefore said to them again, "Peace be with you; as the Father has sent me, I also send you." NASB
After reading these verses, it's not hard to figure out, is it? Jesus was speaking to the foundation of His church when He said, "you are now sent to do what I was sent to do. You are sent to teach, preach, and take healing among the people. You are sent to cast the demons out of those who are afflicted."
Jesus showed His pierced hands to these first members of His church; hands which nails had pierced. He showed his wounded side, pierced with a spear, and said to them, "As the Father hath sent Me, so send I you."
The book of Acts tells us the church began to do just what Jesus commissioned His church TO do. Acts 5:15-16 says people came in multitudes and brought those who were sick and vexed with demons. Acts 17:6 says that when the church did what Jesus sent the church to do; all the folks who had not believed on Jesus observed and said, "These are they which have turned the world upside down."
