On the occasion of Mother's Day
INTRODUCTION
We live in a day and time in which people are always looking for role models. A role model is someone others want to emulate and even imitate, and with the right role model, that person can really change and mold someone's life. Some people find them in professional sports; some people find them on their jobs; and yet some even find them in schools and churches.
The Bible has many role models for us today. We find great men such as:
-Noah, one who preached about the great rain (and flood) for over 120 years;
-Abraham, one who is known as the Father of the Faith;
-Joseph, one who gives a great example of perseverance;
-Moses, a great leader and spokesman for God;
-David, a great king with a heart for God;
-Daniel, a great prophet for God in his own right; and,
-Paul, a persecutor turned into a preacher and apostle for the cause of Christ.
But not only are there great men; there are also great women as well. Women like:
-Sarah, one who laughed about giving birth, but gave birth after it was thought that she could not conceive;
-Ruth, a woman who knew the importance of having a mother in her life; and,
-Mary, the mother of Jesus, who was with her son even to the end of his natural life.
But for today, we want to focus on a woman named Hannah, who was not just an ordinary woman; Hannah was A Mother of Faith.
BACKGROUND/TEXT: We find ourselves in the Book of 1 Samuel. This book was written to the Israelites specifically and to the human race in general. According to the Preacher's Outline and Sermon Bible, the purpose of 1 Samuel was to give the Israelites:
-"A historical record of their transition from the ear of judges to the era of the kings, a record of birth and establishment of the monarch ...
