1.1 We're in week 2 of a four-week series entitled, Knowing Jesus.
A) Jesus was a type of rock star. He was famous, controversial, friendly, powerful, scholarly, and very accessible even to kids.
1. People that admired Jesus wanted to know Him.
2. People that hated Jesus wanted to know Him.
3. He is known in times of peace as well as moments of chaos.
John 10:14 (NIV)-I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me.
4. Jesus taught us that He is knowable.
i. How would your life change if you knew Jesus?
ii. How would your life be enriched if you knew Jesus better?
Philippians 3:10 (EASY)-Yes, I want to know Christ better and better. I want to know the power which God showed when Christ rose from death. I want to have the same kind of troubles that he did. I want to obey God like he did in his death.
B) Paul admits, 30 years after his conversion, that he wants to know Christ better.
1. Not only is Jesus knowable, He can be known better and better over time.
2. Knowing Jesus is a lifelong journey.
3. Whether you're in a season of peace or chaos, you can know Jesus better.
4. Let's explore how the disciples grew in their knowledge of Jesus during a time of chaos.
Matthew 14:22-33 (NIV)-22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
