1.0 Jesus Can be Known Even in DISRUPTION.
1.1 We're in week 3 of a 4-week series entitled, Knowing Jesus.
A) Jesus was controversial, magnetic, appealing, transformative, and disruptive.
1. His teaching was disruptive to people's ordinary lives. He called for radical change and transformation.
2. To follow Jesus meant that your life would undergo a major disruption.
John R. W. Stott, a British pastor and author once said, "The cross of Christ is the ultimate disruption-of sin, of death, of self."
3. The Jesus-kind of disruption has to do with a radical shift in your values, priorities, and lifestyle.
i. If your life has never been disrupted by Jesus, rest assured you've never met Him.
ii. The Jesus-kind of disruption brings peace amidst chaos. It brings joy amidst pain.
Francis Chan, author and pastor points out, "Jesus does not offer tweaks; He offers transformation. That is always disruptive."
iii. Jesus doesn't adjust your life-He overturns it with love.
Door to the Cross: If Jesus hasn't disrupted your comfort, you might be following an idea-not a Savior.
Mark 1:16-20 (NIV)-16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17 "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people." 18 At once they left their nets and followed him.
19 When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. 20 Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.
B) Knowing Jesus happens when you least expect it. His disruption happens in the ordinary and the mundane actions of life.
