Hey, welcome to Mission Hills. If you're just joining us, I know it's Family Weekend. We got some kids in the room that may not know this, or it's maybe your first weekend. We're in the midst of a series. We're actually two messages into a four message series called sticks and Stones. We're talking about what God has to say about using our words to do more building than breaking, and what we've done throughout the series I, I wanna do again today.
I just wanna read this whole passage and then we'll break down a part of it. But I want you to just receive this word from God about our words. And so why don't we do this? We've been doing this last couple weeks. Why don't you to put your palms up. You can either rest 'em on your legs or you can raise 'em up, but maybe close your eyes and just receive this.
This is a posture of receiving and that's what we're gonna do. We're gonna receive this word from God about our words. Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.
When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal or take ships as an example. Although they're so large and are driven by strong winds, they're steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts.
Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one's life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame t ...
