Hey, welcome to Mission Hills. We're so glad to have you with us. Whether you're joining us in person on one of our campuses, we are we are a single church that meets in four locations. And so wherever you are joining us maybe you're joining us online or maybe this is your first weekend here.
Just really glad to have you with us. We're in the midst of a series right now. We're actually wrapping up a series today called Sticks and Stones. I've been talking about what God has to say about how to use our words to do more building than breaking. And so as we go into this last time, I wanna one more time read this passage.
We've been breaking apart, and so I wanna encourage you to do this thing we've been doing. Put your palms up. This is a posture of receiving. Maybe close your eyes. Let's receive this word from the Lord about our words. Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.
We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is without fault. And what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check. When we put the bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal or take ships as an example. Though they're so large and driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.
Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one's life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and sea creatures are being tamed or have been tamed by mankind, but no human being tamed the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison with the tongue. We praise our ...
