Title: Managing God's Money (3)
Series: God & Money-What the Bible Says about Managing Money
Author: Jeff Schreve
Text: Proverbs 3:5-10
If you have your Bible, please turn to Proverbs chapter 3. We're in our series "God and Money," and today we want to talk about "Managing God's Money."
Well, the sports world was saddened just a few weeks ago when, on March 21, George Foreman went home to be with the Lord. Big George was a fan favorite. He won a gold medal when he was 19 years old in the Mexico Olympics. Two-time world champ. The first time he won the heavyweight championship of the world was when he was 24. And then he won again at the age of 45. Amazing! Now, George came to know Christ at the age of 28. And I had the privilege of getting to interview him just a couple of years ago on the radio, and he gave me a whole hour for the whole broadcast. And I asked him about the movie that had come out called "Big George Foreman." Some of you have seen the movie, "Big George Foreman." If you haven't seen it, I encourage you to see it. It's his life story. But in that movie, they talked about him losing his wealth. When he quit boxing at the age of 28, came to know Christ, left boxing behind and started to preach, he had about 5 million dollars accumulated through all his winnings, which in today's money is about 20 million dollars. And he entrusted some friends to manage his money. And after 10 years of them "managing his money," he was broke. They had squandered all of it. He said, "You know, I put my faith and trust in some guys that I met at the Job Corps, and they weren't true friends." Can you imagine having somebody that you entrust your wealth to, and that person squanders your wealth and leaves you hanging? One of the things that is very obvious that is required of money managers when we're going to turn over a lump sum of money for them to manage is that the person be honest and faithful and trustworthy and work for our best interests.
