Title: From Surviving to Thriving (1 of 4)
Series: From Surviving to Thriving
Author: David Ireland
Text: John 3:1-11, 16
1.0 It is the Will of God that You THRIVE.
1.1 Today's sermon "From Surviving to THRIVING" is a new four-part teaching series.
A) Jesus delights in helping you move from surviving to thriving.
1. Jesus was very clear as to the reason behind His coming to the earth: "I came that they might have life and have it to the full" (John 10:10).
i. Jesus wants you to thrive and not merely survive.
ii. Surviving is about holding on. It's about just existing.
iii. Survivors stay stuck in what was, trapped by what hurts, afraid of what's next, and are blind to what could be.
Are you surviving or thriving?
2. Thriving doesn't mean life is easy. It means you've found meaning.
i. Thrivers learn from what was, are grateful for what is, press into what's next, and live boldly into what could be.
3. God is not afraid to come alongside of you and provide guidance and meaning so that you can thrive.
John 3:1-11, 16 (NIV)-1 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him." 3 Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again." 4 "How can someone be born when they are old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother's womb to be born!"
5 Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with e ...
