Title: The Words Of Affection
Author: Samuel Burgess
Text: John 19:25-27
Introduction >
There are 2 basic things that the Holy Spirit has helped me to understand as
I've been studying these last statements that Jesus made on the Cross. (1)- They are
Important Statements! Every statement is filled with truths that we must hear!
Each statement that Jesus made has significance and real meaning!
(2)- They are also Personal Statements! The statement that we are going to
study was a statement directed to individuals. Don't overlook the fact that, while
there were people mocking the Lord, there were those who were there because they
loved Him, and they were committed to Him.
The 3rd statement that Jesus made that is found in {John 19:26,27}- "Woman,
behold thy son! ... Behold thy mother" was made to 2 individuals; Mary, the
Mother of Jesus; and John, the Beloved Disciple of the Lord.
But back in {John 19:25} we find that there were other individuals who were
near the Cross. Mary the Mother of Jesus, John the Beloved Disciple...there were
also Mary's sister, Salome, was there the mother of James and John; Mary the wife
of Cleophas [Mary's sister-in-law], and Mary Magdalene were there as well.
Even though Jesus did not speak directly to them, I truly believe that the Cross
of Jesus spoke volumes to their hearts.
What we have here in these 3 verses are individuals who were near the Cross
of Jesus. They give us an example of what every individual in this building,
including Christians, should do. We need to spend some time at the foot of the
Cross.
*These individuals represent a relationship, a connection they had with the Lord
Jesus. It took courage for them to be there...
*There are some lessons that we need to remember and not forget from these
individuals that we find near the Cross of the Lord Jesus.
(1)- The Cross for Mary Magdalene was a
Place of Deliverance
Even though Mary Magdalene is listed last of the 4 individua ...
