Title: The Cry of Anguish
Author: Samuel Burgess
Text: John 19:28
Introduction>
One of the greatest Truths that we find in the Bible is:
God Knows Exactly How You Feel!
There is no way anyone can misinterpret that statement. There are Christians who
will walk into a Church somewhere at some point, take their seat, and sit there feeling
that no one understands the pain and disappointment that they feel. Some think that God
cannot relate to what they are experiencing.
I want to say to you that no one, especially Christians, should ever feel this way.
There is no doubt that our Lord knows how we feel. One of the reasons that I know this
to be true is because of what He said on the Cross. Jesus said 2 words; "I THIRST".
We are told that Jesus hung on the Cross for 6 hours. For 3 hours, Jesus had hung
in complete and total darkness. And with 2 words Jesus lets us know once and for all,
that no matter where we are in our life, God knows exactly how we feel. *Jesus, while
hanging on the Cross, looked up into the Heavens and said; "I THIRST."
Listen to {Isaiah 53:3}- "He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and
acquainted with grief."
It makes no difference what sorrow, what grief, what hurt, what suffering you may
have felt or you are going through; you don't have a pain or grief that God has not
experienced. GOD DOES KNOW HOW YOU FEEL!
It is interesting to go back and study these 7 cries that Jesus made while He was
on the Cross. The first 3 statements He made were to others; He spoke to His enemies,
He spoke to a thief, He spoke to His family. The last 3 statements Jesus made were
about Him self.
-He talks about His 'body' - "I thirst"
-He talks about His 'soul' - "It is finished"
-He talks about His 'Spirit" - "Into Thy hands I commend My Spirit."
When Jesus Christ hung on the Cross, He was offering up His body, His soul, and
His Spirit in perfect obedience to His Heavenly Father.
