Title: The Cry of Submission
Author: Samuel Burgess
Text: Luke 23:46
Introduction >
Everyone should consider how they live each day and how they take care of
themselves. But the reality is, one of these days, no matter how healthy you are; no
matter how many miles you may walk or run; no matter what you eat or don't eat; no
matter how young or how old you are; no matter how good or bad your blood pressure
may be; no matter how high or how low your cholesterol is, you and I are going to face
a time when we will take our last breath on this earth and die.
Much of what goes on in this world is part of a continuous battle against death,
but death wins in the end. Death is an appointment, not an accident! I believe that we
are not really prepared to live until we are prepared to die.
When we look at the Cross, we see that Jesus experienced death. We see Him as
He was taking His final breath. Jesus did not avoid death. His time had come for Him to
give up His life. [Jesus was young and He took care of...]
As Jesus was dying on the Cross, He taught us how we could face death. He
made this statement: "Father, into Thy hands I commend My Spirit." These words were
spoken by an earthly man who was ready to die.
If we take a closer look at how Jesus died, and see how He handled it, we will
never think of death in the same way. Jesus, who went before us, showed us the way to
die and He invites us to face death the same way and join Him in Heaven.
*Now, before Jesus taught us how we could face and conquer death, He taught us, by
example, how to live the Christian life the right way.
1)- Jesus taught us by His life that we need to take time during each day and pray.
2)- Jesus taught us by His life how to treat and pray for others; including our
enemies.
3)- Jesus taught us by His life that it is necessary to do and fulfill the Father's Will.
4)- Jesus taught us by His life what it means to be persecuted by doing what is right.
