Title: Jesus In Your Storm (16)
Series: The Gospel of Mark-A Journey with Jesus
Author: Jim Perdue
Text: Mark 6:45-56
-We're studying the Gospel of Mark on Sunday mornings in a series called, A Journey With Jesus. And each week, I feel like we learn something new about Jesus. Last week, we saw Him miraculously feeding a huge crowd of people with a small lunch from Captain D's. Today, we see another miracle as Jesus shows up in the midst of a storm when the disciples were afraid for their lives.
-*One of my favorite stories is about a little boy who had one line in the Easter play. One line to remember, one line to memorize, one line to say. And his line was, "It is I, be not afraid." And so he memorized that, he practiced that, he said it to himself over and over. Of course, the day of the play came, and he was nervous, and he stood in the spotlight, and he looked at all the people, and his mind went black. So instead of saying, "It is I, be not afraid," he said, "It's me, and I'm scared to death." If you have lived very long at all, you know how that feels, right?
All of us are put in situations and circumstances where we have a choice: We can be controlled by fear, or we can walk by faith. We have a choice. And those turbulent times, where every single one of us walk through at different times of our lives, often we call them storms. All of us go through storms. We don't get to choose whether or not we'll go through them, we simply get to choose how we get through them.
-Today, from Mark 6:45-56 I'm talking about storms, but more specifically, I'm talking about Jesus In Your Storm. What does Jesus do in the midst of the storms we face? *And before I dive in here, I just want to say something. Faith is not natural to us. Worry, fear, and anxiety are natural. But faith is not natural; it's supernatural. So, in His grace God does two things: First, He gives you faith, then He grows faith in us.
-*And how does God grow faith in our lives? Storm ...
