-We are studying the Gospel of Mark on Sunday mornings in a series called A Journey With Jesus. Today, we come to Mark 10. Jesus has been teaching His followers what it really means to be His disciples. Time after time, He drives home the point that living for the Lord is completely different than living for the world.

-Following Jesus means embracing a lifestyle that often runs counter to what society teaches. The ways of the Lord stand in stark contrast to the ways of the world. Even when it comes to marriage, divorce, family, and kids. What the Bible says stands opposed to what the world says. -*Today, our world is all about personalization and customization. I went to a pizza place recently called, Your Pie. Great little spot. The whole point is, you tell them whatever you want on your pizza and they make it right in front of you. Restaurants tell us that you can "Have it your way." And boy do we like that! So, naturally, even when it comes to something as foundational as family, we think we can pick and choose what we want. Like people are designing a custom pizza: "I'll take two moms, no dads, and maybe a sprinkle of kids on the side." But here's the problem-Jesus doesn't leave room for these creative interpretations. He lays it out pretty clearly in the Bible. There, we find the blueprint for family; how God designed it from the very beginning.

But our culture treats God's design like an old, outdated model that we need to upgrade. Today, the family is under attack. We're told that the nuclear family is outdated, that it's restrictive, or even oppressive. The world says, "Make your family however you want."
