- We are studying the Gospel of Mark together on Sunday mornings in a
sermon series called, A Journey With Jesus. Today, we come to Mark 14:32-72. In these verses, we see different responses to Jesus. READ 32-34, 37-41, 43-46, 55-59, 66-72
- *We probably respond to certain things a thousand times a day. For most of us, it starts with the alarm clock. Now, some of y'all hit snooze once or twice-or five times. Then we respond to text messages, phone calls, emails, and conversations. At least, we used to. Have you noticed that some people don't even respond anymore? They just ignore texts, leave you on "read," or disappear completely. They ghost you and just don't respond. Here's what you need to know. A non- response is actually still a response. And how we respond makes a big difference. I recently had a call with a salesperson and said, "I'm not going to make that decision today." She said, "Well, you actually are deciding." And I said, "Yes, I'm sorry, let me rephrase. I am making a decision to say NO!" Chuck Swindoll once said, "I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me, and 90% of how I react to it." That's true in our daily lives, and it's especially true in our spiritual lives. Because nothing is more important than how we respond to Jesus.*
- This passage represents a shift in the Gospel of Mark as Jesus moves toward the cross. He has been teaching, healing, and performing miracles. Now, the focus shifts from His public ministry to His suffering and sacrifice. This takes place on the night before the crucifixion, in the Garden of Gethsemane and the high priest's courtyard after His arrest.
