- Believe it or not, we are nearing the end of the journey as we have
studied the Gospel of Mark together for quite sometime. We have called this series, A Journey With Jesus, and that's exactly what it's been. We have seen His miraculous birth, His powerful miracles, His perfect life, and His life-changing teachings. And now, this journey turns toward the cross. This is why Jesus came.
- Find Mark 15 in your Bibles. Remember, we have seen the the denial and trial of Christ. He has been "despised and rejected" by men. He has been "scourged" by Rome and now, He is headed to the cross. As I read these verses I'm reminded of one of my favorite hymns, Jesus Paid It All. READ Mark 15:21-40
- *America is deeply in debt. That probably doesn't come as a surprise to you. I'm sure you've heard it before. Right now, the U.S. national debt is over $36 trillion and still climbing. It's like we just keep swiping the credit card, making minimum payments, and hoping someone else will deal with it later. But now, there's this new effort called DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk. The goal is to cut $1 trillion in wasteful spending and start getting things under control. They've been looking at ways to slash budgets, eliminate unnecessary programs, and trim the fat from federal agencies. But even with all these efforts, government spending is still going up. Did you know that? The debt problem keeps getting worse. It seems almost insurmountable.*
- This is what sin does in our lives. It keeps piling up. One bad decision leads to another, and before we know it, we're in over our heads. Our sin debt is infinitely worse than any financial crisis because we have no way to pay it off. No budget cuts, no good works, no religious rituals can wipe it away. The Bible is clear: "The wages of sin is death."
