INTRODUCTION
Take your Bible morning and turn with me to Luke Chapter 6 as we continue in our series of studies on stewardship entitled "The Generous Life."

If you're a guest today - or maybe just a church member who's been playing hooky for the past couple of weeks - let me say, "February is for finances" here at Abilene, meaning every Lord's Day, each Sunday morning, throughout February, we are gathering our minds and hearts around a very special, specific, spiritual principle found in a very particular, practical, powerful verse in Luke Chapter 6.

Listen to what Jesus had to say about giving and receiving, in the context of relationship, in verse 38.

Luke 6:38, "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you."

ILLUSTRATION

I heard about a pastor who was going to be preaching a sermon on giving and commitment on Sunday morning, but he knew his folks might be a little hesitant to stand up and make that commitment. So, on Saturday, the pastor went into the auditorium and hooked up some electrodes to a few pews. Then, he ran wires to a battery and a switch box under the pulpit.

The next morning, while preaching his sermon on giving, commitment, and sacrifice, he said, "Who will stand up right now and say you'll give your weekly tithe and $20 more per week?" Well, nobody stood up, so that pastor just reached under the pulpit and hit that first button, and an entire row of folks jumped up. The preacher said, "I see those hands. Thank you so very much. Mrs. Financial Secretary, would you please write down their names?"
