INTRODUCTION
Take your Bible this evening and turn to Galatians Chapter 1with me. I want us to begin a new series of sermons through the letter Paul wrote to the churches in Galatia titled "No Other Gospel."
ILLUSTRATION
This past week, on January 29, 2025, a tragic mid-air collision occurred over the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. American Eagle Flight 5342, a Bombardier CRJ-700 operated by PSA Airlines, was on its final approach when it collided with a U.S. Army Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter conducting a routine training mission. All 67 individuals aboard both aircraft perished in the accident.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the Black Hawk helicopter was not maintaining its assigned altitude and was off its approved flight path. Despite warnings from air traffic controllers about the proximity of the incoming passenger jet, the helicopter did not take evasive action. This deviation led to a catastrophic collision.
This tragedy underscores the importance of adhering to established flight protocols and maintaining situational awareness. Deviation from designated procedures, even momentarily, can result in devastating consequences, especially when lives are at stake.
In a far more critical sense, Paul's letter to the Galatians warns about spiritual collision caused by following "another gospel."
Like the faulty navigation and awareness that led to this past week's tragedy, the false teachings in Galatia were steering believers away from the truth of Christ.
Paul's words in Galatians 1:9 are as clear and uncompromising as an aircraft's navigational chart: "If anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed."
