Allow me to begin by telling you how blessed I feel as a pastor. I feel blessed to be a pastor that does not have to convince the Lord's people about giving. I have never felt that I had to persuade you of the 'requirement of it,' 'the need for it,' or 'the reward from it.' As a group, you are a generous people. As you will see, the Chest of Joash is only a tool that we can use to accomplish things a little more quickly - if we embrace it. Our message is entitled simply, "The Chest of Joash."

Our "Chest of Joash" is right here. Notice you cannot see the 'hole in the top' because my desire is for us to 'fill it up' together next Sunday at the beginning of our gathering. This type of message is one of the most difficult things I do, for several reasons. But the main reason is this: When I try to take a slice out of a Biblical person's life and/or experiences, I read all about that person and rediscover that there are many life-lessons for us to learn. In fact, we may come back and hear a series on Joash entitled, "Stay the Course" or "Finish What You Start." The lessons are many and we'll return later.

We find Joash and His chest in a couple of scriptures. Obviously, 2 Kings 12, but also, 2 Chronicles 24.

We begin with a reminder; These people are God's people. He selected, protected, and loved them deeply. Yes, they are sometimes fickle, hardheaded, and stiff-necked, but they are His, nonetheless. Today, this message is for God's people. The ones who have been selected, protected, love, and saved by His Son, Jesus. In fact, when God's redeemed people work within His will and in harmony with one another, eye have not seen nor has ear heard all that He can accomplish in, with, and through us. We may have someone among us who doesn't know Jesus intimately. Let me begin with that invitation. Jesus is like a good Father who spreads His arms and say, "COME. ...
