INTRODUCTION
It was early. Still dark. The city of Jerusalem was quiet, hushed with the weight of the past few days. The crowds that had once shouted "Hosanna!" and then "Crucify Him!" had dispersed.
- The cross stood empty.
- The tomb was sealed.
- As Mary Magdalene quietly made her way to the garden.
- She wasn't going to worship - she was going to weep.
- She wasn't expecting a miracle - she was mourning a Messiah.
- The One who had cast seven demons out of her...
- Who restored her dignity...
- Who gave her life meaning and direction...
- Had been executed like a common criminal and hurriedly buried before sunset.
As she approached the tomb, something didn't look right. The stone had been rolled away.
Her heart dropped. She turned and ran just as fast as she could to tell Peter and John: "They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him."
Peter and John ran back to the tomb with Her. John outran Peter, but Peter was the first to step inside. No body. Just burial cloths. The facecloth was folded and set carefully over to the side.
Something had happened - but they didn't understand it yet.
The men went home. But Mary stayed.
She stood there outside the tomb, crying. Confused and alone, she looked in again - and saw two angels seated where Jesus' body had been.
"Woman why are you weeping?" they asked. "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him."
Then she turned around and saw a man standing nearby. She thought He was the gardener.
He asked her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?" Through her tears, she begged, "Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away."
THEN came ...
