Earlier this year, Joe Montana officially ended the argument. Many thought it had already been settled a long time ago. But in March of this year, the 49ers quarterback told Sports Illustrated that Tom Brady was "the GOAT." The Greatest of All Time.

Now, I am not about to call the Good Shepherd a GOAT. I am not about to call the Lamb of God a GOAT. But I will say, "Jesus is the Greatest of All Time."

When people today argue about who is the GOAT, it's usually in the field of athletics. And there is debate because different people excel in different areas. And there is a somewhat reasonable argument for both people.

One pitcher may have the lowest ERA.
Another may have one more World Series games.

One basketball player may have scored more points.
Another may have led his team to more championships.

In football, a wide receiver may have more catches.
Another wide receiver may have more total yards.

One quarterback may have a better completion rate.
The other may have more touchdown passes.

The debate rages on about the GOAT because different people excel in different ways and in different areas. But there is no area of life or ministry in which ANYBODY is better than, greater than, or higher than the Lord Jesus.

To make his case, the writer brings up a man who is arguably the greatest leader these Hebrews had ever considered. After comparing Jesus to angels and to all of creation in the first 2 chapters, these verses will make the comparison to Moses.

And in a Divine irony, the point of this is to actually say, "There is no comparison to make, not even to Moses." Jesus is in a category all by himself.

R. Kent Hughes says Moses was revered as the Greatest of all Hebrews. That may be. But the writer of Hebrews says Jesus is the Greatest of All Time! Let me show you three way ...
