Introduction:
1.I want to talk about something that is very prevalent in Christianity today. It's called the Prosperity Gospel. A 2018 Pew Research Center study found that 17% of U.S. Christians fully embrace the prosperity gospel, while a larger portion (46%) believe that God grants wealth and health to those with strong faith. Most of the Christian books that you see as you walk into the bookstore, most of the television programs and the preachers that you see on TV, fall into this camp of Prosperity preachers. They believe in the Prosperity Gospel. A lot of non-Christians' first thought about Christianity is some televangelist that they see ripping people off, asking for money. Now, we know that there are good programs on TV, good books written-I'm not saying that-but this Prosperity Gospel is something that we have to address.

2.What is it? What does it teach?
Well, it teaches, generally, that God wants to prosper you. He wants to give you health; He wants to give you wealth; He wants to give you success. Now, this is not without Biblical support. One of the main verses is Deuteronomy 8:18 that those in the movement would reference:

"But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth and so confirms His covenant, which He swore to your forefathers, as it is today." There are other verses all throughout Scripture that talk about, "You honor God, and He'll honor you." And it is very true-definitely. But I believe that they go too far with the Prosperity Gospel.
