Introduction
1. How many of you by a show of hands would say that you've been through a difficult time in this past year?. What was that difficulty that you went through this past year? Hip replacement surgery is difficult. The death of a loved one causes grief. Some people are facing health challenges. God's people go through difficult times.

2. In Daniel Chapter 3, we're looking at the continuing story of Daniel and his three friends, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, who have a difficult story. In Daniel Chapter 1, the nation of Israel is conquered by the Babylonians. King Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians lay siege to Jerusalem, and Daniel and his friends are taken as captives back to the city of Babylon to be reprogrammed as Babylonians. Their worldview has changed. They are amongst a Godless people. They were facing this pagan culture, in contrast with the culture that they were raised in, to know God, to love the Lord, to learn his commandments, and to live according to God's ways. They are carted off to Babylon and reprogrammed.

In Daniel Chapter 1, they run into something that they're not able to participate in, and they say no when they are commanded to eat of the king's table. To eat of the king's table would be to take the meat that was sacrificed to idols and to defile themselves, and as a young Jewish man, they were not going to do that. Even though they were 16, 17, or 18 years old or so, they said no, and God honored them. God says in 1 Samuel that those who honor me, I will honor.

3. In Daniel Chapter 2, King Nebuchadnezzar has a dream and wants it interpreted, so he brings together all of his wise men. These wise men were interpreters of the stars, ones that were really through supernatural demonic powers trying to discern the future and future events.
