Title: Unseen Kingdoms (10)
Series: Daniel
Author: Steve Lombardo II
Text: Daniel 10:1-21
Introduction
1. I want to invite you to go to Daniel chapter 10. We're back to Daniel now. To recap where we've been, the first six chapters are the stories of Daniel and his friends as they were prisoners of war, brought from the nation of Israel to Babylon.
2. The Assyrians were on the throne of the world stage. King Nebuchadnezzar was the king to be feared, and he took Daniel and his friends to Babylon to be trained up as Babylonians. That's what they did so well. The first six chapters show different instances where Daniel and his buddies were challenged in this new place they found themselves in. We've learned that Daniel stood up for God even though he lived in a pagan society. He was true to the Lord, and so were Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
3. It got them in trouble. They got thrown into the fiery furnace because they refused to worship the idol that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. For us, it's such an applicable thing because we live in an increasingly pagan society, and we too are challenged to live for the Lord despite the people around us, despite the persecution that may happen. I think persecution is probably on the uptick rather than going down. We've been encouraged to be like Daniel and his friends, to
follow after God, to stay true to his word. We've been encouraged that when we do that, God shows up.
4. Daniel chapters 1-6 were the historical narrative of Daniel and his friends taken into exile. But now we're in chapter 10, and chapters 7-12, the second half of the Book of Daniel, are a prophetic journal that Daniel writes down-all the things he's been shown by God. In the first six chapters, Daniel has received visions, dreams, and interpreted dreams, like King Nebuchadnezzar's. He's done some miraculous, out-of-the-ordinary things, and he records them all for us in the second half of the Book of Daniel. We only have a few weeks ...
