This past Monday, federal investigators published their report on a fatal construction accident that happened last year in Bradenton, Florida. 49 year old Abelino Olvera fell to his death from a 3-story set of scaffolding.
Investigators confirmed their initial suspicions; that while the scaffolding had been properly assembled it had never been securely anchored to the building. Workers that day found out, through a horrible tragedy, that it doesn't matter how big something is if it is not fixed to something secure and immovable.
From the smallest fishing boat to the biggest ocean liners, all vessels will drift in the winds and waves without an anchor. Similarly, to the first century believers coming out of the Jewish religion, the writer wants them to know that in times of pain, pressure, and persecution, they have an anchor for the soul.
And to believers today, facing the troubles, trials, and temptations of life, he wants us to know, we have an anchor for the soul.
In times like these you need a Savior
In times like these you need an Anchor.
