HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY -
A day to honor your mom
To take pictures w/ your mom
To dress how your mom wants.
Today, we are going to continue David's life.
Only 3 sermons left before we look at the heart of David this summer and do some of the PSALMS he wrote.
Today, we will look at the family of David after the sin of David.
Remember 2 Samuel 12:10 When Nathan told David [NIV] 10 Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.'
So today we will look at when the Family falls apart, but God holds it together.
In all reality, I think it aligns well and will be an encouraging Mother's Day message!!!
Now... Today I want to re-catch you up, tell you the story of 2 Samuel 15-18, then come back and preach a little on the back side.
2 Samuel 11 - David and Bathsheba happen.
2 Samuel 12 - Nathan confronts David and David confesses, "I have sinned against the Lord."
That leads to family dysfunction that only God can redeem.
Can I just give you this... one thing I have learned in life - SIN JACKS EVERYTHING UP!
Sin messes up relationships
Sin messes up friendships
Sin causes conflict
Not just David and Bathsheba Sin
Just SIN in General.
Gossip -
Lying -
Greed
Drunkenness
Pride
Gluttony
We just know SIN messes EVERYTHING up.
Yet we still tend to RUN to SIN!
David did, and it messed up his family... Check this out...
2 Samuel 13:1-14 We find Amnon (David's oldest son) is attracted to his daughter Tamar (who is from a different mother)
Amnon fakes an illness and draws in Tamar and takes advantage of her.
2 Samuel 13:18-20
Her older brother, Absalom, hears of it and is furious.
2 Samuel 13:21 David hears of this, and it says he is furious but does nothing.
