Introductions:
Mother's Day is one of my favorite days of the year! My mother is in heaven but I know she is looking down upon me today, and I thank God for my mother! I want to thank all of you mothers for the great sacrifice that you have given to bring your children up I this world! God has blessed us at Grace Baptist with some of the most godly mothers on the face of the earth! You are a blessing to all and never forget that!
So many mothers do without so that their families can have what they need in life and yet if we are not careful, we will forget their wonderful sacrifice! This morning, I want to look at a mother who was looked down upon to start with because she could not have children, but God gave her a miracle and she had the little baby Samuel, who turned out to be one of the greatest men of God in the bible!
They say that man is mighty,
He governs land and sea.
He wields a mighty scepter,
On lower powers than he.
But mightier power and stronger,
Man from his throne has hurled,
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.
It is for certain that Mothers need to be honored and deserve to be honored. I think about a little boy that forgot his lines in a Sunday school presentation. His mother was in the front row to prompt him. She gestured and formed the words silently with her lips, but it did not help. Her son's memory was blank. Finally, she leaned forward and whispered the cue, "I am the light of the world." The child beamed and with great feeling and a loud clear voice said, "My mother is the light of the world." We would all agree with that little boy!
Anna M. Jarvis first suggested the national observance of an annual day honoring all mothers because she had loved her own mother so dearly. At a memorial service for her mother on May 10, 1908, Miss Jarvis gave a carnation (her mother's favorite ...
