1.0 We Must All Desire to Grow Spiritually.
1.1 Growth is a natural part of life.
A) We all desire to grow intellectually, professionally, in areas of expertise, sports performance, social skills, and other areas of competency.
1. Have you ever thought about your spiritual growth?
2. Do you long to grow stronger in your faith and in your walk with the Lord??
B) Do you remember when you were a child? You wanted to see how tall you were growing. Your parents measured you.
1. If you were like me, you were not growing fast enough or tall enough.
i. The thought of growth was always on your mind.
ii. There should be a similar longing regarding spiritual growth. We're not to remain as spiritual babes.?
2 Peter 3:18 (TLB)-But grow in spiritual strength and become better acquainted with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be all glory and splendid honor, both now and forevermore. Good-bye.
2. It is the will of God that you grow stronger, more powerfully, and in alignment with God's plan for your life.
C) When you meet a mature follower of Jesus there are 5 keys to their achieving such phenomenal spiritual growth.
1. They exude COMMITMENT-A deep sense of belonging to Christ and pledge of loyalty to His mission is practiced.
2. They practice COMMUNION-Spiritual growth begins with intimate communion-drawing near to God daily in prayer, worship, and trust.
3. They evidence godly CHARACTER-As we grow, our inner and outer life reflects the character of Christ-marked by humility, love, holiness, and righteousness.
4. They demonstrate COMPASSION- True growth awakens a heart that serves, forgives, and embraces others with Christ's love.
5. They participate in COMMUNITY-Growth happens as we share our lives, our gifts, and our resources with the people in which we do life together.
